Ferrante, Elswick, & Banks Qualify for T&F State Championship

Stephanie Ferrante (Sr) continued her outstanding senior campaign by qualifying for the OHSAA Div I State Championship in three events (100m - 2nd; 400m - 1st; 200m - 2nd).  She is currently ranked in the top 4 in the state in each event.

Nick Elswick (Sr) won the 3200m Regional Championship in 8:57.93, a new school record, a new Regional Meet record, a new area (News-Herald) record, and the fastest time in the state this year.

Rachel Banks (So) won the 800m Regional Championship in 2:12.42, a new  school record, a new area (News-Herald) record, and the 2nd fastest time in the state this year.

Other All-Region athletes from Chardon included:

  • Peyton Tatonetti (Sr) - 8th; Pole Vault
  • Grant Mlack (Sr) - 6th; 300m Hurdles
  • Josh Sopchak (Jr) - 5th; 1600m Run
  • Rachel Banks (So), Rachel Lannon (So), Mikaylie Park (Fr), Kelsey McCaffery (Jr) - 7th; 4x800m Relay
  • Josh Sopchak (Jr), Adam Sopchak (Sr), Steven Zombory (Jr), Nick Elswick (Sr) - 6th; 4x800m Relay

We had several other athletes compete in the Regional Championship:

  • Bobby Bukovec (Sr) - Pole Vault
  • Steven Zombory (Jr) - 1600m Run
  • Mikaylie Park (Fr) - 3200m Run
  • Adam Sopchak (Sr) - 3200m Run

This was an outstanding showing for a small division I school.  Overall the Chardon Girls team finished 4th and the Boys team finished 10th.  There are about 60 teams in the region.
